Session # 1: A Protagonist-Centered 1-to-1 Sociodrama on Zoom
In this workshop, we will work with a typical yet imaginary client to explore the social and cultural factors contributing to their need for therapy or coaching. Each participant will create their own ‘collective client’ representing the features of the client groups they encounter in their work—these may include age, gender, marital status, or symptoms.
For example, Diane (in the United Kingdom) is encountering many bereavement and loss issues. Often, grieving has been delayed due to the pandemic, when it may not have been possible for clients to physically be with the deceased or hold ‘proper’ funerals. Enforced physical isolation at that time becomes a broader social factor contributing to the need for professional help.
We might also explore the social and cultural factors influencing the therapist/coach, such as class, gender, political and economic concerns, and family circumstances.
Session # 2: Sociodrama Group Insights – A 1-to-1 Exploration
In this workshop, we will use imagination to work with a group you are familiar with. This could be a work group, a project team, or a social group such as a book club. You may wish to explore the relationships between group members or the social and political systems that influence this group.In both workshops, participants will work in pairs in breakout rooms, using objects to represent the social and cultural factors and individuals relevant to their stories. We will reconvene in Gallery View for final sharing.
Materials: Participants are asked to have a variety of small objects available for use in the exercises.
