Developing Communities

Understanding and resolving social issues

Sociodrama is a unique tool for groups to explore their shared experiences
and differences. Because of this it is a fantastic way for community
organisations and groups to work out how to tackle their problems and
challenges.

For example, older and younger people may have pre-conceptions about
each other which cause conflict, but using sociodrama they can learn to see
things from each others’ point of view and resolve their differences.
Community tensions around race, religion, gender, wealth and social
demographics, domestic abuse, land ownership, in fact any situation where
people get stuck in one point of view, can all be tackled using sociodrama.

So how does this work?

The facilitator works to get the group connected first, then draws on their
experiences and ideas to ‘map’ the situation, environment, people involved
etc. People can then look at a situation from a wide range of viewpoints,
and experiment with thinking, talking and acting in different ways.
Together the group uses their creativity and spontaneity to find out what’s
going on and explore different ways to move the situation forward.

  1. A Community fosters that environment where people from all walks of life can share their experiences, expertise, stories and above all laughs. This brings people together and makes them learn from each other for the better. Nice write up. Building communities, building people. Thank you. Cheers, Ramkumar
